Prof Sivaganesh obtained his primary and secondary education at St John’s College, Jaffna and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo with First Class Honours in 1998. He entered the postgraduate surgical training program in 2001and obtained the MS (Surgery) in 2005 and MRCS (Eng) in 2006. He was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to do a PhD in Transplant Immunology at the University of Cambridge, UK which he completed in 2010. He also worked as a Clinical Fellow in Hepatobiliary – Pancreas and Transplant Surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital (NHS), Cambridge from 2010 to 2011. He was received the Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of England and Edinburgh in 2013. He was awarded a Commonwealth Academic Fellowship in 2014-15 to do a clinical fellowship in HPB surgery and liver transplantation at King’s College Hospital, London, UK.
He is a board certified General Surgeon with a special interest in hepatobiiary, pancreatic and transplant surgery and works as an honorary consultant surgeon at the University Surgical Unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Colombo.
