Dr. Vipula Bataduwaarachchi received his secondary education at the Royal College, Colombo and entered the Faculty of Medicine, university of Colombo. He passed out with excellent academic achievements including several distinctions and gold medals. He completed his internship at the National Hospital of Colombo in General Medicine and Surgery and joined the Department of Pharmacology in 2014. He obtained MD (Medicine) from the University of Colombo with the second highest in the Part 1 examination and has obtained MRCP (UK) (Res), Eur Dip Res Medicine (HERMES) and a Post graduate Certificate in Medical Education.
He completed his specialty training in Respiratory Medicine at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and at the Portsmouth University Hospital in the UK with one year of Research Fellowship in Respiratory Medicine and clinical trials. He is a member of Sri Lanka College of Pulmonologists, ERS, BTS, ATS and APRS. His main research interests are new asthma therapies, airborne microplastics in respiratory diseases, respiratory microbiome and medical education related to Respiratory Medicine and Pharmacology. He has presented in many local and international scientific congresses including ERS and APRS and have won several awards. He has published in local and international journals including BMJ, BMC, Hindawi and Lancet publishers.
