Prof. Jithangi Wanigasinghe is a professor in paediatric neurology in the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. She graduated from the University of Colombo in 1998 with first Class Honours.
Her main field of work relates to paediatric epilepsies and her research interests have been most on treatment of infantile spasms. She is the principle investigator of the Sri Lanka Infantile Spasm Study (SLISS) which has been able to document a possible role to oral prednisolone as a first line therapy for West syndrome. She has worked very closely with patients with epilepsy, trying to improve their care and quality of life. She was the president of the Epilepsy Association of Sri Lanka for three years.
She is the Chair of the Paediatric Task Force of ILAE AsiaOceania region and a member of the Paediatric medical treatment Task Force and member of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force of the International League Against Epilepsy. She is a member of the Governing Council of the International Alliance for Child development and member of the International Collaboration of the Young Representatives of the International Child Neurology Associations. She is also the Chair of the long-term development committee of the Asia Oceanian Child Neurology Association.
