Past student of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and excelled in academic and extra-curricular activities. Obtained MBBS (USJP, 2005) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with a second division class, passing all subjects and with distinction passes in Physiology, Biochemistry, Parasitology and Pathology, Diploma in Medical Microbiology (UoC, 2013) & MD in Medical Microbiology (UoC,2016). Joined as an academic in December 2017 following a 10 year period of clinical service at various hospitals across the country. Underwent post-MD overseas training in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, UK as an International Medical Training Fellow and served as an Honorary Clinical Fellow for the Medical School and Dental Institute of the University of Aberdeen, UK. Obtained DipRCPath from the Royal College of Pathologists UK, PG Diploma in Medical Education from the University of South Wales, UK with a Distinction Pass and Fellowship of the Royal Society for Public Health, UK.
Author of 6 publications in academic journals both local and international and 17 abstracts. Research includes a MD dissertation on aerobic bacteriological profile of deep seated collections of pus at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. Research interests are in aerobic and anaerobic bacteriology in deep seated collections of pus and systemic Candida infections. Won awards for 3rd place in Poster Presentations in Annual Scientific Sessions of Sri Lanka College of Microbiologists 2016 and 1st place in Oral Presentations in Annual Scientific Sessions of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital 2017.
Serves as the Programme Coordinator of the PG Diploma in Gender & Health conducted by the FoM while reading for the PGDip in Gender and Women’s Studies by the UoC. Member of several professional medical organisations and still continue to enjoy the extra-curricular activities especially with regard to public speaking, literary work and environmental activities.
