Software engineering is an art of reading client’s mind and making it to be the reality. This has been one of my passions for over five years, especially in opensource distributed system. This passion blossomed further with my current position, Programmer cum Systems Analyst in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
I am a first-class honors graduate in Bachelor of Information Technology of the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), and have achieved several professional level qualifications with over 20 years of hands-on experience in teaching and over five years’ experience in systems development.
I started my career as a Science & Math’s teacher for secondary level education curricular, and then, migrated to ICT after about six years, where my career progressed as an IT instructor in Primary, Secondary, Collegiate and Tertiary level education and an IT Lecturer at Graduate Level.
In addition to teaching, I made my focus on the software development industry when I was in final year of the degree program. The result was embarking on freelance software development as a backup career which finally became my dominant profession. I have successfully completed more than ten web applications for both external clients and the faculty, to solve the problems that occurred in various problem domains. Among these, Online Application System for External Pharmacists Examination of the Ceylon Medical College Council is the recent. The project of designing the faculty web site was also one of my tasks, though, I am more inclined towards application development over web designing.
Teaching is such an animated & affectionate profession, no one can give it up easily after being in it. I continue my teaching career as a Project Supervisor for BIT final year students and conduct some professional level classes for web development etc.
I always believe that self-learning is the secret of my success and being hungry for something new at every moment. My interests are New Development tools and strategies, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Mobile Application Development, and IT-enhanced teaching.
This, I feel is not complete unless I mention my leisure time activities. Listening, playing & composing music and reading help me to relax. YES! books and music are my heaven.
