Dr. Pushpa Kulanatha started her career as a medical officer attached to the Department of Ayurveda in 1996. At the National Institute for Traditional Medicine (NITM), of the Dept. of Ayurveda, she held multiple posts throughout the years. She was the medical officer (teaching), the coordinator for the school program, and she was a lecturer at NITM until 1999. Some notable work she has done at the NITM include holding knowledge-sharing sessions for Ayurveda practitioners—based on her ancestral experience, conducting lectures for students in the “Ayurveda Shastrie” program, and—most notably—holding sessions and publishing a Hand book for school students on daily routines named “Dina Charya”.
She has conducted research and gained extensive field experience on “Raising awareness of indigenous medicine among metropolitans” for the Postgraduate Diploma at the Faculty of Education, University of Colombo in 1998.
Since 1999, Dr. Kulanatha has been a lecturer at the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, and she obtained accreditation as a teacher in higher education in the University of Colombo in 2000.
Before she completed her M.D., Dr. Kulanatha participated in specialized in-house programmes on Training Trainers of Community Health conducted by the NITM from 1996 to 1999.
She has successfully completed the short course of continuing medical education conducted by National Institute of Traditional Medicine Sri Lanka in 2000.
Dr .Kulanatha completed her post graduate qualifications from Education Faculty as a Post graduate Diploma Holder in community Development2000
Also she completed the English for academics course conducted by Staff development Centre in 2000
she has completed certificate of trainer of Yoga in Indian Cultural Center Sri Lanka 2001
Her Professional qualifications earned through
Specializing in Ayurveda Samhita, and certificate of Sanskrit learning, certificate of Trainer of Yoga and Trainer of Diploma in Yoga 2005 in BHU.
Doctor of medicine from All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) Banaras Hindu University of India in 2006.
She was the first grantee who completed the postgraduate program under the NCAS grant therefor she was became the Orator at the NCAS inauguration, Conference on Fundamental and Operational Research for Development held on 2008
