Professor .Kaumadi Karunagoda, graduated from Institute of Indigenous Medicine (IIM), University of Colombo, Rajagiriya in 2005 with a first class at the BAMS final exam obtaining Distinctions in Kayachikitsa and Deshiya chikitsa. During the five years as an undergraduate, she was awarded with Dr. Jayantha Edirisinghe prize for the best student in every academic year considering exemplary performances.
She had followed Doctor of Medicine in Ayurveda (Stee roga Prasuthithantra) in Gujarath Ayurveda University, India and graduated in 2010. Then in 2021 awarded by Ph.D in University of Colombo. Since 2016, she is holding a position of Senior Lecturer Grade 1 in unit of Prasuthithantra Kaumarabrithya, institute of Indigenous Medicine. During her career in the institute she was appointed as the head, unit of Prasuthithantra Kaumarabrithya for consecutive 6 years (2012-2018). Warden, Girls Hostel, secretary Ethics Review committee, IIM and the post of secretary, Ayurveda Sectional committee, IIM were some of the posts hold by her. She was appointed as a professor in Ayurveda Gynecology and obstetrics in year 2023.
She currently involves in being a medical educator, supervisor, lead trainer, and chair of the speciality board Stree roga Prasuthithantra of Postgraduate Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. Dr. Karunagoda also works as an honorary Consultant Ayurveda Obstetrician and Gynaecologist attached to the National Ayurveda Teaching Hospital, Borella from year 2011. She is an active member of Sir Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS), Section A, appointed as Secretary (year 2019, 2020), vice president in year 2021, council member and President in 2022.After Institute of Indigenous Medicine turns to the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine she was appointed as the founder head of the Department of Ayurveda Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology and Gynaecology Obstetrics and Paediatrics.
Her special interests are subfertility, antenatal care, uterine fibroids and other gynaecological disorders. She is a quintessential medical professional, researcher and an educator who is working with a vision towards ensuring respectful medical care to women throughout their life.
