BIOGRAPHY

Prof. S.K.M.K. Herapathdeniya obtained her secondary education in Mahamaya Girls’College Kandy. She entered to the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo in 1985 and completed Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) Degree with a First Class in 1995. She obtained postgraduate qualification with Doctor of Medicine (Ayu) in Rasa shastra from the Banaras Hindu University, India in 2006 and is currently reading for PhD in Chemistry from the University of Kelaniya. She also holds the Diploma in Yoga from the Banaras Hindu University.
Prof. S.K.M.K. Herapathdeniya was initially appointed as a medical officer in the Department of Ayurveda in 1996 and as a lecturer (probationary) in the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Rajagiriya in the year of 2002. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer Grade II in 2007. She served as the head of the department of Dravya Guna Vignana from 2010 – 2013, Students’ Counsellor (2-17 – 2020) of the Department of Ayurveda, Institue of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Rajagiriya
She is also served as the Chairperson of the Specialty Board of Bhaissajya Kalpana and Rasa Shastra of the PGIIM.
In addition to those Prof. SKMK Herapatheniya was a member of the sub-committee of the Ayurveda Drug Formulary committee (Yoga sangraha/suthra kamituwa), Department of Ayurveda (2011), Member of the Hospital Committee of The National Ayurvedic Teaching Hospital of Sri Lanka. (2012 – 2018) and Member of the Ayurveda Drug Formulary committee (Yoga sangraha/ kamituwa), Department of Ayurveda (2010 – 2014) and Member of the Steering Committee of Minamata Convention (2017)
Prof. S.K.M.K. Herapathdeniya has engaged in teaching and research related to Rasa shastra, Bhaissajya Kalpana and Dravya Guna Viganana. She has supervised 02 MD (Ayu) research projects and served as an adjudicator for MPhil and PhD nationally and internationally.
She has published 65 abstracts in symposia proceedings and 20 research papers in local and International research journals. Also, she had delivered four (04) keynote speeches.
