At undergraduate level, I usually teach linguistics courses. Since 2018, I have taught the following:
ENG 1106 Introduction to Language Systems – introductory linguistics concepts
ENG 3171 Methodological Approaches to Language Research (co-created and co-taught with Dr Esther Surenthiraraj) – a survey of selected, typical methods used to research language-based phenomena
ENG 3264/3269 Second Language Acquisition – an overview of topics in how a second language is learnt and taught
ENG 3271 Language Ideologies (co-created and co-taught with Dr Esther Surenthiraraj) – looks at ideologies related to language use, especially in relation to gender, nationalism, disability, sexuality, etc
ENH 3275 Language and Identity (co-created and co-taught with Dr Esther Surenthiraraj) – a course open to students from other departments on how identities (gender/sexuality/ethnicity/etc) are performed an and through language
ENG 4183 Child Language Development and Socialization – a course on children’s acquisition of language(s), and socialisation to literacy, social norms, etc
At postgraduate level, I teach courses/sessions in linguistics and on topics related to research methods, including ethics, data management, etc.
