For my MA dissertation, I conducted a study titled “Academic Discourse on English in Sri Lanka: A Critical Discourse Analysis” in which I used a theoretical approach that combined both Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to analyse three journal articles published between 1940 and 1950 in order to ascertain how the academia envisaged the future of English in post-independence Sri Lanka.
