Roshan Hewapathirana is a Senior Lecturer in Health Informatics, in the Department of Anatomy, Genetics and Biomedical Informatics of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He is also a visiting lecturer and a member of the Specialty Board in Biomedical Informatics at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo.
He obtained his MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2003, and completed an MSc in Information Technology in 2008 at the University of Moratuwa, and the PhD at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo, Norway.
Prior to joining the academic community, he served as a senior software engineer in Lanka Software Foundation. He is an active member of the open source community District Health Information System (DHIS2). He is currently a researcher in public health informatics, open source and health systems and; has been involved in several international information systems projects in the capacity of a business analyst and information systems consultant including, UNICEF, AusAID and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
