Biography

Dr. AFM Joonus commenced her academic journey at the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, in 2003 and successfully completed her undergraduate studies in 2010, earning a Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) with First-Class Honours.

Following her graduation, she served as a Medical Officer at the Base Ayurveda Hospital, Kappalthurai, and the Bandaranaike Memorial Ayurvedic Research Institute, where she gained valuable clinical experience.

In 2016, Dr. Joonus joined the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, as a Lecturer (Probationary). She successfully completed the Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) program in 2017 and was awarded the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) accreditation in 2017.

Dr. Joonus pursued her Master of Surgery (MS) in Ilmul Qabalat wa Amraz-e-Niswan (Gynecology and Obstetrics – Unani) at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bengaluru, India.
